jd 60 oil on top of piston

I have now found that I'm getting oil on top of my number two cylinder is their anyway the oil could get their other then the rings on the pistons the tractor has 125lbms of compression runs good underload doesn't smoke

Well, Yes...from the Air Filter canister...

On older models like the "A" and "B", an obstructed Air Inlet Tube would cause oil to be sucked from the Ventilator Pump (and they really SMOKE)..!
Mud-Dauber nests are usually the cause on them..

You can also have an excess of oil on the intake valve stem which will then be sucked into the engine. Not sure just how they do it on a 60, but the older letter series had a dropper tube to lube only the exhaust rockers. They in turn threw enough oil onto the intakes to keep them oiled but not enough to suck much oil into the engine. All one has to do make a real oil burner out of them is drill two more holes in the dropper tube above the intake rockers. Oil consumption will go up drastically.

Perhaps your dropper tube is bent in such a way to allow extra oiling for #2 intake valve only? Stranger things have happened.

I guess I would start it with that Plug removed, to blow out that cylinder, shut it down and install the plug and see if it happens again..

You might want to remove the lower Cup from the Air Cleaner and check it..maybe leave it off when you start it, to see if anything changes while it is off..

Does your 60 have the upper (extended) air intake above the Hood..?

The air intake sucks air from right behind the front grill ill try to start it without the oil bath and see what happens
Although if the air cleaner is the issue wouldn't I have oil in both cylinders
Another thing I notice the other day when I was tinkering with it was I was getting little bubbles in between the headgasket and head or even the block I saw them after I had backed the tractor off a trailer and pulled the plugs out to see what they looked like after this past weekends benefit pull

That is not a good sign..

Probably a blown Head gasket...but, would usually give you coolant in the cylinder..
Have you Re-Torqued the head lately..?
May be worth doing that..

It still could be oil sucked from the Air Cleaner.
I would prefer to use a lighter (5-20) oil in the cup, for pulling. It is less likely to suck as high in the metal gauze in the filter cartridge at full throttle and will also reduce the vacuum required to draw air through the filter while still cleaning the inlet air..
Maybe leave the oil level (in the filter cup) a little lower as well.
For one thing (if you have not), I would drop the Air Cleaner off and make SURE the inlet is OPEN all the way into the top of the Canister.
They can build up a good deal of dust, oil, etc and become restricted..especially at the top of the canister where the outside(front) Inlet tube connects.
While it is off, dunk the complete canister in a 5 Gal bucket of solvent and agitate it until you are sure it is free-flowing..

With the air cleaner oil cup off I was still getting the same thing in the cylinders so I'm going with a head gasket
Now the question is what is the torque on the head bolts and since my manual has come up missing remind me of what valve clearance should be
