60 decal placement on hood and grill.

Does anyone have any pictures with measurments that show the correct decal placement for a 1956 model 60 power steering? Im putting decals on this afternoon.

I spent a lot of time looking for what would be the right way ,, and some one on here said that they were kinda random to who ever was putting them on that day, but here is what I came up with..The need to be angled up to look right..but not too much..

There are specs for the 50 which I found many years ago when I did my 50. Seems the 60 would have the same type of specs. The only one I remember without finding them again ( :) )was the front edge of the "John Deere" on the hood should be 5 inches back from the break between the hood and the grill.

Tim S photos look really close to the 5 inch dimension.

Let me know if you would like me to look up the other dimensions for the 50 which you could probably use as a close reference.

The proper placement is as close as your tractor"s operators
manual. It"s full of pictures from every angle and shows the
proper location of decals.

There was a nice write-up in 2 cylinder about this a
few years ago. They had a Deere photo from the 50's
with 4 or 5 60's at a field demo... and every one
was a little different.

A call to them might yield you some information.
I'm guessing they'd sell you the back isssue.

That's where was looking at too B&D, and I was using the proportion of the locations to help guide me, as well as looking at others..

Try Travis Jorde or K&K hopefully you bought the decals from one of these places.

The numbers on early tractors were smaller and placed differently. You mentioned power steering is it just the placement of the PS decal you seek ? If you have factory PS then your numbers would be like Tim S pictures. I can't remember for sure if the power steering on those was on the grille ? I think it was unlike later 620-630 that it was on the casting below the grille.

Operator's manuals can be very deceptive in some instances on where to place decals. Many times prototype tractors are used in the photographs so the books will be ready when full production starts on a model of tractor. Decal placement often changes from the prototype stage to the production stage. This being said, all the original First Numbered tractors I have had or been around had the "John Deere" on the side of the hood about 4" from the grille/hood seam. A 1956 model tractor will have the number designation very close to where Tim has his on his crawler. I believe they are tilted upward to the right somewhere around 28 degrees. The "Power Steering" decal goes below the number designation ON THE GRILLE but NOT on the tractor frame like the newer 20 and 30 series tractors. The John Deere trademark goes in the front of the battery box and is basically centered. The tire inflation decal goes on the left of the battery box and is basically centered as well. The small "12V" decal goes directly beside the auxiliary outlet on the rear of the battery box. The "Hydraulic Powr Trol" decal (NOT CUSTOM) goes at the top of the Powr Trol box on the flat spot. All this being said, these tractors were being manufactured at a very fast clip and not every tractor had precise placement of decals. Not every person placing the decals would have been as picky as all of us want to be, but these places are where they were supposed to be. They just didn't always end up there. Mike
