My "39 H makes a terrible squealing noise at the governor. I took the oil feed line off where it enters the flywheel side of the governor and there is no flow. If I unhook it at the pulley side, oil just dribbles out without enough force to move it through the tube. If I use an oil can to inject oil into the hole the noise goes away, so hopefully the bearing isn"t shot, or the gears don"t need the backlash set as so many do. Oil pressure gauge reads normal. Haven"t yet put a gauge on to see the actual pressure number. Is there a way to backflush this supply or can I increase oil pump pressure?

You may be able to raise oil pressure by adjusting the relief valve on the pump. Look for a pipe plug on the right side of the crankcase, take it out and go in with a large screwdriver. Turn it in one click at a time and see if it helps. The line on the pulley side, do you mean the one that runs up to the oil pressure gauge? You should also take the valve cover off and see if the tappet shaft is getting oil. If the adjustment doesn't help look in the crankcase to see if oil lines are damaged. Other than that it's probably loose main and rod bearings.

L.H. cam bearing is a somewhat weak point in JD H design. Early models used a 3 hole bearing mount with a separate oil tube from the governor, then they used a 4 bolt mount with an oil tube from the governor, & finally went to a 4 bolt mount with no oil tube. The fact that the noise goes away when you manually oil the bearing thru the tube indicates that its getting worn. If every thing is right there should be oil flowing from the tube when the engine is running. Rotating the housing adjusts the cam gear mesh, so be sure you mark it before removal.
