Looking at a 520

I need some advice.
First , I've generally been an IH guy, but have always wanted a
2 cylinder. I am looking at a 520, NF, 3pt,loose,(ran when parked)
2-3yrs ago. Rubber's not bad. Rims are solid. Tractor shows wear,
tin is fair, at best. Will need significant bondo if I want a sharp looker. Thats not my immediate objective. Tractor has been converted to an alternator. The wiring is a bit shaky. It does seem structurally sound & is complete. Currently, it has no spark. I have no doubt I can get it running & it will do what I want it to do. I am thinking of offering 1500.
Am I in the ballpark, or nuts..

I'd say you are in the ballpark... at least without
photos. Maybe a little low, but maybe it'll be
enough to get it bought.

530s will sell at a premium to 520s- keep that in
mind.

I have one restored that I have had for 30 years. My local salvage yard brought a junk one in. I was wanting to buy it for parts, but they wanted $2000 for it and it was rusted all to pieces with few good parts left. I would think $3500 is more of a fair price going by your description. If it was running it would be like $4000-$4500.

Keep in mind when setting the value, you are not buying IH tractors here. That green paint is expensive.

That would just make the owner mad here. If it's worth fixing it'll bring double that. Course you never know until you ask.

Best to buy a restored model...parts are cost prohibited now...powers steering/transmissions/engines are hard and very, very, very, expensive to work on. I've fixed up 4 in the past several years and I wouldn't even touch one now....really doesn't matter as to cost $1000-3,000 it'll cost you $4,000 -$5,000 to restore.....

I brought a 530 running with bush hog, 7ft disk 3 pt blade and a few extra for 1600. Owner didn"t want it any more. He set the price not I. He said the tractor has been overhauled, had it for 4+ years and it been working fine.

Did the seller have an asking price or is he looking for offers?

If the 3 pt hitch is complete, it might be worth as much as the rest of the tractor. A 3 pt hitch will be nice to have if you intend to make it a working tractor. If it won't be a working tractor, would a more common tractor like a late "B" be simpler to work on and maybe half the cost to restore?

Closed the deal..$1750 No regrets
Complete 3 pt was the difference for me. Otherwise, It'd been a 620 wf. Not running yet, but it'll be fine.(I've made bigger mistakes.)

You did good, I'd say. Sold mine 15yrs ago for $2700.00. Had complete 3pt and NF. Had 14 calls after I sold it. Could have gotten more I suppose.
