40U drawbar frame help needed

I have a late 40U, and need to remove the drawbar frame; part #
AM2405, called "Load link mount assembly" in the PC.

Each final drive housing has a dowel insert (M1568T) which goes
part way through the final drive casting and AM2405. So, even
after the bolts holding AM2405 to the final drive castings are
removed, the frame will not drop down due to the dowels. Yes,
they are rusted in place in the final drives, but AM2405 is loose
on the dowels.

How to get them out - so I can remove AM2405?

My best idea so far is to loosen the final drive from the
transmission case a 1/4" or so - move it outward - so AM2405
can clear the dowels.

Any better idea?

Hello JCarroll:

I am working on a late S/N 40U as well & that is what I did......loosen the left or right (only need to loosen one side) final drive housing to provide enough clearance to get the drawbar frame off the dowels.

Good Luck!

Those dowels should be threaded on the inside -- if you remove the long bolt that goes thru the dowel you may be able to see the threads. More often than not Ive had to re-tap them but then all you do is turn a bolt in, slide a narrow punch in from the other side and tap the bolt/dowel out.

That's a clue!

The through bolt is 5/8" - is the internal thread a 3/4"-NC ?

Thx a bunch.

PS - I'm in Marysville - going to Springfield this week?
