Been working on a LA that has been sitting for 30 yrs. Cleaned Marvel Schebler carb it has a hole in the bottom that I figure is for overflow. Shouldn't this hole have something in it to keep dirt out?
Thanks

Are you refering to the large hole where the drain plug goes?

If you know the model of carb that will help too. The LA, if correct, should have a TSX 60, 85 or 90. There should be a round tag on the carb body.

My JD MT, which also has a marvel schebler carb, has a drain plug as well as a little porous plug that is called a strainer drain. This is a TSX 245 carb and is not much different from the ones that are on a LA.

No tags on carb. It has a larger drain hole that is plugged but there is a smaller hole, maybe 1/16 to an 1/8 that is open. I feel that it should have something in it to keep out dirt but I don't know what. I think it is put there for excess gas drainage.
