38 a runs fine when first started after it warms up it runs rough and back fires.

Sounds like its running out of fuel, possibly one of the small passages partly clogged in the carburetor

Same symptoms as a bad condenser in the magneto, also.

I"d say rebuild the mag and new plug wires then rebuild the carb and see how she runs

Im with the rest of the guys. My A the condencer went bad and it was from a new points and condencer set. It didnt last long. I put the old one back in and its still running good. A diffrent time it started backfireing come to find out it was some trash from my tank stopped up the inlet to the sediment bowl. Thats what i would do is change your condencer and clean up the points and set them then check your fuel flow out of your drain on the carb bowl. If its not one of them then your going to have to tear into it deeper.
