1941 A is flooding

I have taken bowl off carb and the float has fluid in it but nothing seems to be leaking from the float. Is this normal, or should the float be empty?
 
more common than you'd think.

I never got why or even how so many of them leak, but they do.

Toss it and get a new one.
 
If you can solder a copper pipe joint then you have the skills to solder the hole in that float... find the hole by dipping the float in hot water. It will bubble. Mark the hole and clean all around it with steel wool until it shines. Then open the hole a little bit with a tiny drill or the tip of an ice pick. Use a small propane torch, rosin core solder and soldering flux. Melt a piece of solder over the fluxed hole and heat around it in a circle about an inch away until it flows. You will see a small flame at the hole until the gas inside burns off. Just back the torch off until the flame goes out and proceed. Add solder to close the hole as necessary. Go slowly. Dip it back into hot water and see if it bubbles. If it works, you just saved yourself 30 bucks and if it didn't, you've lost nothing. I am running patched floats in both my B and H.
 
Well, not everyone has a soldering copper, nor does everone have an acetylene outfit to heat one cherry red. Most do, however, have a cheap propane torch and if you drill a 1/8" or so hole at the leak you can shake the gas from the float and burn off the vapors, then proceed to solder the hole shut.

A lot of the younger members on this site haven't been doing this for 40-50 years like us and don't even know what an old-school soldering copper is, much less have one on hand. I use mine for the really dangerous stuff, like patching a hole in a gas tank.
