4630 Hydraulic Pump Seal

4630 got run low on oil (blown hose) about a year
ago and now this spring it has started leaking
hydraulic fluid out of the front pump at the pump
shaft.

What's the process for getting the pump out and
the seal replacement? Should I put a new shaft in
while I'm there? Never done one before so the more
detail the better!

Thanks

Most of the time a shaft leak requires a new quad-seal and teflon backup washer. The pump must be completely taken apart and shaft removed to replace the high pressure seal and ring. There is also a low-pressure dust seal on the outside of the pump. It would be a rare even to require shaft replacement due to such a leak. Shaft adjustment - maybe. It rides on adjustable cone-and-cup bearings. Shaft end-play needs to be set around 0 to .002" endplay. If it's looser than that - it can cause premature seal failure. To tighen - you need to add shims (not remove).

You can try just changing the the bleed off/ dust seal and make sure the the bleed off line is open. Otherwise I agree you would have to pull the pump I think you can take it out of the top by removing the deck plates
