John Deere B shifter.

I am restoring a 1947 John Deere Styled B. A few months ago I unassembled the Shifter platform, steering and lights post, and shifter assembly for painting and repairing purposes. I am trying to put this area of the tractor back together. I have a diagram of the shifter but when I assembled it, the shifter rod doesn't reach the forks? Could someone tell me what I did wrong? obviously the shifter assembly is not put together correctly? I followed the diagram? The only part it shows beneath the mounting plate is the ball?
Thanks in advance. Hope my questions are understandable?

Did you install the ball mounting plate below the shift platform with the gasket between? The ball should be below the plate. Good luck. Ron Mn

Yes the Ball is below the plate. Everything is as it shows in the diagram in the John Deere parts catalog for B. I then bolted the assembly in the bottom of the housing. When I sit the housing on the tractor, the shifter does not reach to move the gears?
Thanks, Bob

if it worked before and you put it back just the very same way it has no reason not to work you've missed something, all shifters need to line up as well. good luck.

I got it. I had the retaining rings in the wrong place. I moved them up the shaft to the correct slot and all works as it should! Thanks for your replies. Bob
