Can you narrow up a NG without bolting fenders to ROPS?

Dad wants to narrow up his 3020 to use on a 6 row cultivator. Everything has stayed set at 38 inch, even though we went 30 inch rows 6 years ago. With our hills, it's nicer they stay set out.

But last fall dad found a really nice JD 6 row cultivator and wants to cultivate again if he feels he needs to/wants too.

So, our 3020 has ROPS and canopy. Are we going to have to end up bolting the fenders to the ROPS? I sure hope not. But I know it will be get tight.

2 years ago I moved the cast centers to the inside spacing on the rim, as they were on the outside spacing, and I added 2 sets of wheel weights to it and didn't want them sticking out past the tire for going in and out of sheds. So when doing that I did move the rim on the axle, so at least that should be easy to do, since it was freed up recently.

Talking to one guy he said to reverse the fender mounting bracket so it puts the fender right next to the ROPS, and he then thought we could slide the tire in enough to narrow it up. I have looking in the book, and now you can reverse the dish on the rim too, to get it to the spacing you need, but the manual can be a bit confusing in that regard.

So anyone done it without have to bolt them to the ROPS? I have heard the front end will be the tough one to get slid in. I've put Kroil on it all winter as it sat in the shed, and hoping it goes easy, as not one to like to have to beat on stuff if I can avoid it. Thanks!

So are you going back to 30" rows? Unclear.
If so put the fenders on the roll guard instead of complicating your life.

I would not bolt the fenders to the roll-guard unless there is no other way to make it work because in a few years his fenders will be rusted out junk.I have junked a dozen or more sets of fenders over the years that were bolted to the roll-guards on some of the tractors we sold.

Our 4020 is narrowed up to 30 inch rows with the fenders still mounted using the cast brackets, they are turned so the u-bolt is to the outside and there ends up about 3/4 inch between the fender and ROPS. I doubt your 3020 has 18.4 tires so you should have even more room between the tire and fender.

Everyone, good to know. And yes we are at 30 inch rows now....we went to narrow row.

I don't want to bolt them to the ROPS - the 4020 came that way and we unbolted them and bought brackets for them as soon as we got it home.

The spacers would be better then nothing if having to put them back on the ROPS. But I know some say the holes are pre-drilled in the ROPS to bolt the fenders on, but I don't believe on the 3020 they are/or that I have seen.

I am hoping as the last reply says, I can reverse that cast clamp that the U bolt mounts to the axle and have the fender moved in just about all the way. Then slide the tire in on the axle. Thankfully we never run this tractor in the winter so chains won't be needed as that would be another issue.

Thanks for the replies and I will give it a go sometime here soon!

Have you put the cultivator on the tractor yet? I would do that first and try it out before going through all the moving of the wheels. Might need a bunch of front end weight, but still might have the tail wagging the dog. Good luck, chris

We have the starter weights and 3 front slab weights on the 3020. Dad used the 2520 with a 4 row cultivator previously to cultivate. So I hope the 3020 is sufficient, should be. But good advice too!

Depending on what you want to do I bet that the front end has a setting that will work for both 38" and 30". My dads 4020 front end is set just right for both because we used to have corn on 38s and beans on 30s and cultivated both. As for the back I would assume you can get close enough if you don't have 18.4x34s but my sisters 3020 has them and is on 30's and a roll bar would fit on there with out bolting fenders to it

I assume your 3020 will have 15.5x38 or 16.9x38 [unlikely] and that will allow room for fender bracket if turned to the inside.Your wide front is made to allow 30in setting and your rear wheels will have to be on outside bevel of rim unless you don't have factory castings.[I am not sure of your comment regarding reversing casting]If the 2520 handled cultivator 3020 is about the same. The RG if JD will have 4 holes for fenders and most if they came from factory that way will be mounted to directly to RG.I like the look and coolness just don't care for extra noise even with all the tricks to eliminate it.I have removed several RGs but the fenders are usually good if tractor was taken care of.I have seen several rusted out fenders on livestock tractors even with out RGs.The spacer idea is good too.

I just bought a ROPS and canopy for my 4020 and had to agree to give the seller my fender brackets to go back on his tractor since his fenders were on the ROPS.

I would like to replace my brackets so I don't have to bolt my fenders to the ROPS. Any ideas where to find a couple of brackets and U-bolts?

TigerPaw - You did the right thing, rather find the Canopy/ROPS and give up the brackets, as they are available different places. I've seen them on Craigslist time to time, or else salvage yards will have them. Email me if you need and I can probably help you find a set.

Badger I would love any help I can get in locating a pair, however your profile shows no email and your pm is turned off unless I am doing something wrong. Where are you located also if you don't mind me asking?

TigerPaw4020 - sorry about that, but in my first post, my email is on that one. IF not I hope it's in this one so you can reach out. Thanks!

I must be doing something wrong.

Can someone help us out?

In modern view, I only see a profile button and when I click it, Badgers profile shows no email listed, and when I click his PM button it says PM disabled.

In classic view it shows NO EMAIL.

Is my browser having problems or am I doing something wrong?

Or is there something Badger needs to change in his profile?
