JD 4050 Gauges Not Working

I recently bought a used 1983 JD 4050 with analog gauge cluster. When I turn on the key and with the engine running, the voltmeter works. The fuel gauge and oil pressure gauge peg out, and the coolant temp needle doesn't move. I bought a used gauge cluster from an internet salvage yard and it works the same way. All the wires going to the sensors, key, and ground check out. I have a tech manual for the tractor but it refers me to a TM-1259 (that I don't have) for troubleshooting. Any ideas?

The ground terminal "G" of the plug-in has good
continuity to the ground of the tractor. Am I
missing something?

FWIW- I have an "83 4450 MFWD with the Investigator II monitor system. Intermittently I would lose all gauges, then it would start working again. This went on for a couple of years. I added a mechanical oil gauge to the side of the engine just to make sure I had OP.

JD was aware of the problem and determined it was a ground issue under the hood. At the rear of the engine, top side, there are two bolts that each have several ground wires terminated there.

Take the hood off, clean the terminals, etc, then it works for awhile. Second time I did that I soldered each group of wires together, soldered a jumper wire between the groups, and soldered another wire that goes down to the frame......end of problem. Now, when I turn the key on, everything lights up and registers as it should.
