flat belt dressing

I have recently acquired a saw to mount on the front of one of my tractors. It operates well. Besides the spray bombs of belt dressing, what else can be used? My uncle had something in a stick form but I cannot remember or never did know what it was. All comments appreciated, thanks in advance. I remember the belt jumped off the hammermill more often without dressing when grinding feed and then it was kinda clogged up.
 
We ran into this at our harvest days show. Apparently stick belt dressing is not available anymore (probably due to liability reasons). We experimented and found out nnalert roofing tar (the thick stuff) works great as belt dressing. It acts like the old stick dressing. It doesn't take a lot to work well but it does work. Homemade sorghum syrup, molasses, corn syrup.
A little dab will do ya. Been using sorghum for years on sawmill, syrup mill, flat belt driven drill press. Don't put on but a little bit at a time.

Old thresherman"s trick: use chassis grease; a little spread on a slowly moving belt will work in and give great adhesion. Run the belt for a short time to work the grease in and you will be surprised how effective it is.
 

When we belt up the Steam Engine to the sawmill or thresher we use a belt dressing that is Amish made. We got up to an amish here and buy it from him, he gets it from Ohio.

A customer of mine at work runs an elevator and cleans oats, and I gave him a can to try once and that's all he uses since. Said the other stuff slipped belts and squealed, and said this stuff does the trick, had me get more for him last spring too.

Thing is I can't remember the name right off hand but can figure it out if your interested!

Also I see the company that makes Kroil Penetrating oil makes belt dressing, which they send ya a free sample to test to your liking too.
