Oil leak on the 60

After getting my 60 cranked and running this weekend im now tracing down a couple of oil leaks. One is the valve cover, easy fix. The other one is in the reduction gear cover behind this cover. #24. What is behind this? Can I just remove the cover and replace the gasket?

# 24 is another easy fix. Remove the 2 bolts and the cover comes off. There is a ball bearing behind there just check it is ok and the nut that holds it to the shaft is tight and the bearing is not loose in the cover. If bearing is bad it can be removed from the outside and replaced.

Not sure on that one. Might be a good idea to use a level and tape measure to the fill plug for the tranny and drain plug on the reduction cover. Wouldn't hurt to drain some out - don't take plug all the way out ! HTH

Yes it is above the oil level.

BTW do you know that that reduction cover has a separate drain and fill takes apox 1 1/2 qt. but it will migrate back and forth between the tranny.
If it wasn't drained before then I'd pull the drain now and make sure no water or junk is in there.
