What to buy

I would like input on a larger tractor purchase. I'm looking at a 4955, 4960 or 8300 Deere. I like the newer cab on the 8300 but it gets to more $$ than I really want to spend. I would appreciate any thoughts on pros or cons of theses (or other similar size) tractors. Thanks!!

The only real difference between the 4955 and the 4960 is a couple birthdays and the muffler is moved from the hood, they are good tractors with less electronics to hassle you than the 8300 has,, electronic "Bugs" are a lot of trouble at times..

What are your thoughts on buying something that is advertised as recently overhauled. If there are dealer records to verify it, would that be a good purchase - or do you think that is a sign that the tractor has had a tough life?

A good over haul is okay,, one that has been setting out side a lot and abused is going to have a lot of issues.. I have one here that a guy bought in Mississippi had been in the rice field,,it is a worn out mess, worn rice tires C2 clutch hub was blown out PTO clutch and brake was worn out and the wire harness is a mess,, I'm still fighting wiring issues, he paid around $30,000 for it,,I wouldn't want it,,, the care of a piece of equipment is as important as the hours on it, as you look for one be sure the wire harness is not all butchered up, make sure the 4X4 light and switch work correctly and make sure the PTO brake is working,as well as the pivot pins on the front axles, just a few things that are important...
