720d transmission

Today I was driving my 720d and shifted it into the left side of the transmission and can't get it back into the right side. It is also running in the wrong gears. When I put it in 6 it is actually running in fourth. Fifth is running in second. Is there an easy way to get it back over or do you have to open up the top cover to line stuff back up again. It does have a pony motor and I'm not sure if that cover can come off without removing pony motor.

Thanks

Neighbor had a 730d pony that would due that going down hill if
you did not ride the brake in road bears. Have to unbolt top
cover line everything up and set back down, we got pretty quick
at as most times did not shut her off. During silo filling when
running wagons it when it would happen on ours. Mr thinker
overat green mag stated that a bearing that holds two shafts is
worn and allows shafts to jump around and bang, shifter on
high side with low side gears! Neighbors 730 been like that fo
going on 15yrs.

I looked at it again today. It looks like I have to take the starter off the pony to get to the center bolt in the front of the trans cover. I'll try that tomorrow night.
