JOHN DEERE 4630 Quad Range tran pump suction screen location

Trying to solve a hydraulic problem on my JD 4630 tractor, the service manual that I have bought talks about cleaning the transmission pump suction screen, but does not give the location of where the plug is to drain the oil and remove the screen. I have found one picture that shows a drain plug on the bottom rear of the tractor by the draw bar. Have found two more conflicting drawings with one showing the screen looking like it would come out the right underside of the tranmission in front of the rear axle, the other looks like it would come out out on the left underside of the transmission in front of the rear axle. The tractor is about a 45 minute drive from home and the JD dealer is another 30 so I would like to make sure what plug to pull and what gaskets or seal rings to have with me when I check the screen. I have already change out the Hydraulic oil filter even though it look good. Thanks

The drain plug by the drawbar will do the job.

The screen is crosswise. Remove the plug at the LEFT HAND side and withdraw the screen.

LOL!

Yeah, you're right!

I had a mental picture of the LH side of the tractor, and then typed RH!

Thanks for the correction! I fixed the original post.

Thanks for the info, looking from the front of the tractor I found the plug that takes the 1/2" pull bar to remove the plug between the hydraulic oil filter and the axle. Drained the transmission housing first with the 1" plug under the backside of the tractor by the draw bar looking from the back side of the tractor it was on the right side. The oil was clean and all 21 Gal. came out,had a kiddie pool to hold it. The transmission suction screen was clean like the oil, looked inside through the hole and the inside of the transmission was clean also. Put it all back together and still had the same problem will not rase the hydraulic disk. But now I know that it is not the oil, the hydraulic filter, the transmission pump suction screen and the SCV which I took apart. Maybe by the time my JD hydraulic service manual that I have ordered gets here I will have a 5000PSI gauge here also. The 3 point lifts real slow and the engine loads up for about 2 seconds when I engage the PTO which works. Thanks for all the replies, looks like I will have to check one thing at a time until I find the problem, Waiting on the Hyd manual and the gauge.

I'm just now reading about your problem,, what is your stand by pressure measured at your SCV ??My guess is it is near or below 1750psi,, in this case your priority valve is limiting your rear pressure and flow,, see if you can turn the pressure adjusting screw in (Clock wise) to increase your stand by pressure to 2250psi...This adjusting screw is on the underside of the front pump it takes a 3/4" wrench to loosen the jam nut and an Allen wrench to turn the screw.

Does power steering operate correctly? While you're waiting on pressure gauge you might consider checking to see if priority valve(parts keys #2-#7A or 7B) is stuck which could also limit pressure to RS & SCV's

Yes everything else works good ,steering, brakes, shifting, PTO, just the 3 point is real slow coming up with no load and the hydraulic cyl. will only raise the disk about 2 inches for about 5 tries after being first cranked cold and then will not do that much. The cyl. will hold the disk as far as the hydraulics will raise it, so I figure the cyl. is good if not, when I let off on the lever after getting it up 2 inches the disk would lower itself. From what I can gather from reading on it, the tractor will run fine without the hydraulic cyl. and 3 point working. If I can not find the problem soon I will put my 12V dump bed hyd. pump on the disk to raise and lower it to get the ground ready for soybeans. Then go into the main pump when I have time this summer. Thanks

My thought is to turn the pump screw in a couple of rounds and see if it gets the pressure up to over come the priority valve...
