We don't know if you have a parts book but JD was sporting enough to post an online parts book. We like to quote the actual part number as it reduces the potential to confuse parts.
What is the history to require work on a 2840 transmission?

Have you tried any salvage yards? As sorry as 2840's were when they were new I'm sure some salvage have some parts available.

If you check the parts book. You find that other models of JD tractors also used the identical shafts and gears.
You are not limited to looking only for a 2840.
