What is your guess 4450 engine problems

I am at a loss on what to do with this thing. At 8600 hours the original engine went south on this 4450 MFWD. I was desperate to get it back in the field and was told by the local dealer that the best option was to put a new RE-MAN drop in engine. $18k later I had a gutless wonder. 1400 hours and we were pressurizing the radiator. Found 2 broken head bolts and a head that was showing severe damage from a dropped valve. (obviously damage was old and they should have scrapped this head) this time work being done by a very respected area repair shop. Another 450 hours and 11 months again pressure in the cooling system. They pulled the head today and found #5 sleeve didn't have proper stand out. What is strange is it has .003 on one side and -.0005 on the other. Any thoughts on how this could happen? I won't be buying any more ReMan engines from mother Deere.

That was the problem with the old 4010-3010 series . We would get a Sweeny tool from Deere to cut the block square and them shim the sleeves accordingly . Whoever repaired this block originally didn"t check sleeve height or they would have found this . Actually is a factory defect and should never have left the factory .I doubt you could get any help from DEERE now but you definitely should. Back in the 60"s and 70"s DEERE would have helped you but that was when they had class, now they don"t give a rat"s a**

"Knock on Wood" I have never had to use sleeve shims,,and it seems like this guy would have been better off re-building his own engine...Darn it

Me either. And never a good idea to use reman engines in anything.
I thought those Springfield engines were supposed to be good but apparently not. They do have a warranty and the territory man might have to get involved.
