Carb problems

Just got my carb back for my 39 A. Put it on and took off the top cap on the bowl on the side and filled it with gas, and hand turned it. Nothing. Earlier, I had taken out the plugs and put some gas in the holes and replaced the plugs, and it fired off. Any ideas??

Should be a small line impressed the same way as the butter fly is on the end of the choke shaft right where the arm is on the choke shaft. This is on the carburetor. I hope this helps you.

"Taking the cap off the bowl on the side and filling it with gas" does not fill the carburetor bowl. Put the cap back on and connect the fuel line from a known clean source of fuel so the float and needle seat will respond as they should and the float bowl will fill properly.
The choke lever is just forward of the "bowl on the side" and it has a hash mark that indicates the position of the choke disk.
Usual procedure is to move the choke lever so the hash mark is vertical, then turn the flywheel two or three rounds to get fuel to the cylinders. If the engine starts while doing this, immediately move the choke lever so the hash mark is slanted. Continue to adjust the choke until the engine runs smoothly. With engine warmed up, choke should be off, with hash mark horizontal.

Hey Farmall,
I gotta agree with Popin John. Filling at that point probably won't fill bowl. Make up a quickie gas can from a steel gallon can and hook that to the carb. then you can actually run it for awhile. Good Luck! John
