Snow plowing in Maine

My daughter lives in Maine and is up to her ears in snow. I have no experience with what it takes to have an adequate snow plow for residential use. What horsepower tractor would be adequate for plowing snow? Some possible John Deere tractors and equipment recommendations from some of you folks out there.???? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on how much she has to do and how fast she wants it done. I'm running a Wheel Horse 525H (22HP)with a 50" 2 stage blower. I can handle anything up to 2 feet at a time with no problem. Above 2 feet and wet I have to take partial passes. The little Wheel Horse does have a cab. If you're looking at a real farm tractor I wouldn't go below 35 Horsepower and you'll want live power & hydraulics, power steering and 3 point hitch.

The best bang for the buck IMO is a garden tractor with a front mounted snow thrower. Plowing snow with a blade is a PITA cause you just end up closing yourself in.
How long of a driveway?
Cement? blacktop? Gravel?

I bought the largest Toro walkbehind snow thrower that is made, 28" wide 20" high. It sure does the trick.

If she has piles of money to spend then get a 50HP new tractor with a front snow thrower, 4WD, tire chains, hydrostatic drive, heated cab too of course. All this would be $40k.

I have a JD 1330 SE but the electric moter that turns the chute froze up this year. I am going to leave off the cover and used a copper tube and run it from the muffler to the motor to try to keep it from freezing. Other wise it does real well and starts good but it surges unless under a heavy load.

TSV - I Plow an 1/8 mile driveway in MA with my John Deere MT & a 6 foot snow plow (MT72). We had over 4 foot tall banks at one point this winter and as someone else said I ended up getting to the point where I had no where to put more snow. Because of this we have been considering getting another tractor that can handle a rear mounted 5 foot snow blower. Some of them say you can run a 5 foot on as little as 18 HP and I have thought about trying to put one on my MT however I would need a 3 point hitch kit as well.
