Transmission drive shaft

That bearing is supported by the reduction gear cover. It doesn't prevent that drive shaft from moving horizontally towards the transmission housing. All bearings have been replaced. I don't think that drive shaft is to move; if so the first reduction gear won't mesh correctly with the transmission drive shaft. Has anyone encountered this scenario ?

The cover has a snap ring. The bearing goes against it. The shaft has a nut to hold it in the bearing. The little cover over the bearing holds it in. It just has a little play when assembled correctly. Wear in the snap ring and cover can increase play. Maybe your snap ring is gone ?

Thank You.
I won't get into it till next month. There is a noise in the gear reduction area. When I replaced the bearings every gear looked ok. No un-usual wear pattern. The transmission shifts like it should and the clutch works perfectly. I replaced the bushing and bearing in the clutch pulley. I grew up with John Deere tractors on the farm.
