Neutral on a Synchro-Range

The guy who towed the 2510 in 'neutral" instead of Tow got me thinking. Stupid question, where is neutral? Thought there was Park, Tow, 8 forwards, and 2 or 3 reverses.

Neutral is the long area on LH side under "park" plus the areas between each designated gear. Neutral is marked in RED.

For safety sake (of the machine) don't tow far at all or pull start any JD made after 1960 !
This info will save you guys ALOT of money !

I do agree to only tow a JD Syncro-range or Quad-range far enough to get off roadway or onto a roll-back truck/trailer. What's wrong with tow starting? As soon as clutch is released with trans in a gear the trans pump is turning which in turn oils the trans shafts & gears.

I knew I'd start a war with a blanket statement like that.
What I am trying to do is get the idea out there to not do this to ANYTHING Deere made after 1960 because there are just too many models to pick and choose from and try to remember all the do's and don't.
Anything with a power shift or hi-low or reverser is going to get EXPENSIVE if you go pull starting on them !

I think a difference of opinion is hardly a War. I stated I'd only recommend "towing" a very short distance. IMHO any major breakdown is expensive and galling a gear to a shaft by towing is totally uncalled for.

All that and the fact that the "tow" position is not handy to find,, you can be one way or the other a bit and not be in tow, and pull starting a sychro range with out a perma clutch will work out okay as the engine is turning over the trans pump is operating too..

"I think a difference of opinion is hardly a War"

I agree but this is the YT forum ! LOL !!!!!

Let's ask about lead washers or oil brands !
These will make Putins activity in Ukrain look likes childs play. LOL !
