Just picked this one up today. The haul was pretty tough, had to pull it from across the road. Might have been almost 1000 feet total.

She's got potential. Wow, that's one humongous looking plow bottom. How wide is it? I bet it would male old John pop!

The plow is an 18" sod buster.

(quoted from post at 16:03:58 08/30/13) Looks like you have new tires and rims. What size are the tires & the rims?

The tires are 13.6 x 38 and the rims are 10" x 38". The tires are a bit on the rough side when you get up close, but will work fine for now. I sandblasted and painted the rims since they were already off the tractor and needed some better rubber mounted up to hold the tubes in place. The old tires were rotten with big splits in the sidewalls.

(quoted from post at 17:05:31 08/30/13) What ? Too lazy to drive the thing ? ;^)

The PO said the oil pressure was getting low, but it has an automotive gauge in it that goes to 80 lbs. Wanted to check things out before trying to fire it up. Also have to get spark and fill the cooling system. Hopefully there are no big problems.

I have a 1945 model A with 10 inch rims that needs new tires. I was wondering if 13.6 x 38 tires would work on 10 inch rims and I see yours look fine.

I would be inclined to think your "A" came with 11" rims..

I just put a set of JD "A" (11") rims on my Late Styled "B", with Deep Tread 13.6x38 Firestone tires and mine look exactly like yours as far as tire width compared to rim width..

Great find..!!

I checked the rim width again and they are 10"

(quoted from post at 18:27:56 08/30/13) Pretty nice looking early 47 model a you have. It has potential.

The serial # is 575xxx which I believe is a 1946 model.

I drained the engine oil and found a bit of sludge in the bottom so I popped the top cover for access to clean. Think I will drop the oil pump out so I can do a thorough cleaning and make sure the screen is clear and in good shape. Also pulled the grille and cleaned out the radiator, it was mostly plugged with dirt and debris. Couldn't have been much air flow. The shutter is rusted away on one side so I'll have to repair it or find a used one.

Made a little more progress. I cleaned and inspected the oil pump which looks to be in good shape. The screen was half plugged with crud. Cleaned out the crankcase also. While its opened up I'm going to check the clearance on the rod bearings.

I just bought a JD B right across the road from me. It was a nice shape 1 family owned one. It was restored several years back and has sat inside a nice building since. Learning experiance for sure since I have all red in my shed! Got to get used to the hand clutch! I keep trying to use the left brake as the clutch! Haha!

I pulled the flywheel off the A. It is leaking around the crank seal and needed the end play adjusted. While it was off I decided to paint the area behind the flywheel before putting it back together.

I installed the new cork in the flywheel spacer, installed the flywheel, and got end play adjusted. Next I will check the rod bearing clearance.

Checked the rod bearing clearance today. The #1 rod was .006 and #2 was .003 . I pulled some shims on #1 and got .003 there also.

Got it fired up for the first time today. The oil pressure looks good so I guess my adjustments worked out. Now I need to fill the cooling system and check for leaks.

I put water in the radiator and it leaks out almost as fast as I put it in. Looks like its time for a recore.

Looks Like I will be welding up one radiator side support that is cracked. The filler flange will need replacing also. We'll see what the bolt flange area of the tanks look like when I get it torn down. When I rebuilt our AO rad, they were eroded and needed repair.
