4400 gas combine

Still fighting this @#*&%$ combine! needs choke out part way if you push throttle ahead fast or else it will sputter coming up to speed. resurfaced manifold, new gasket, cleaned carb, new plugs, cap, points, condensor, fuel filter-pumps plenty of fuel out of line to carb. At wits end!!!! seems to want to sputter and lose power when warm, but that's after combining for half to one hour, have no clue anymore.

have you repacked the throttle plate shaft on the carb? if the packing is deteriorated it can cause an air leak that would require the choke to be pulled out for the engine to run.

Vent in gas cap plugged? Does air rush in when opening gas cap after running until it quits?

Still have fuel flow to carb when it quits? Something in gas tank rolling around and plugging outlet? BT-DT.

No mention of replacing the coil which are noted for heat failures.
There are times it's better to obtain a new carb from eBay or the dealer instead of tinkering with the old carb. Sometimes there is 't much difference between the price of a carb and a carb kit.

replaced coil. always has good supply of gas pumping out at carb. line. Drained out tank thouroughly and installed 1/4 inch valve and 5/16 clear filter in line before fuel pump. sprayed carb cleaner all around carb with no notice of any leaks, however yes, throttle bushing does appear to be on the sloppy side.

I agree with 'Steve_in_Mo. Another thing in addition might be running to lean, richen the mixture a 1/4 turn on the power needle and try this...running lean makes the combustion chamber very 'Hot'. I'd also check the valve clearances just to help rule out and narrow down this issue.
Post back with any changes.

Mr Jugs
Does that have a mechanical fuel pump or just electric pump?
I was having about the same problem with my 55 a few years ago. Run fine then die. Ended up replacing the mechanical fuel pump. Might pump fine at first but with heat the diaphragm or spring got weak and wouldn't deliver enough fuel.

About time you get your corn picked. If you were closer I'd come help you out.

Is your distributor shaft worn? Get the cam on the points rub bar, (as if you are setting the points) push towards the points and measure the gap, push away and measure. Shouldn't be much difference. If too much movement, your point gap will be moving all over the place. The neighbor had an IH 806 gasser that would spit and sputter due to a worn distributor.
