4020 makes sudden pull to the right

I bought a 1967 4020 (power shift) which is in very nice original condition. The only issue is that in road gear, it will make sudden pull to the right in a very significant way. Has anyone else had or heard of this issue?

Yes the steer motor (down front) needs re-sealed, when oil leaks past a piston head it leaves a void which will let the wheels drift, when your in road gear it's amplified,, it can wreck you if your not ready for it...

My '67 4020 PS does the same thing only to the left. Doesn't seem to do it as often when only running about half throttle. Only does on the road.
Thanks for the advice, Tim.

This is a common problem,,and mainly because the most of them have never been resealed,, they have done a "Lot" of steering the last 40 years. Deere offers a kit, but it doesn't include the large lower pinion seal, they can be ornery to repair if it's your first one, when any of you guys get ready to do one I'll post some pics and hints on doing them,,don't wait too long to do them as they can put you in the ditch or worse yet oncoming traffic...

Hi
If your not expecting it to happen It makes your pants go brown in a hurry! been there done that. I was taking a customer tractor home 3 miles from the shop,I worked in at the time.

Guys never told anybody it did it! and wouldn't pay us to fix it when we found out! Comment was it's fine if you know it does it. well how many people where gonna find out like I did.
I was lucky I got it stopped and back straight before I or someone else was killed!
Regards Robert

Larry, it"s usually the steering motor, down front, when the seals get worn the pressure that normally holds every thing tight leaks off causing a void or low pressure in one of the cylinder sides this lets the wheel dart one way or the other, it won"t show up as much in the field because you are correcting your steering more often and this compensates for the leak off. Deere offers a re-seal kit but they don"t include the large lower seal in the kit,it"s not a bad job to repair, when you get around to doing it I will walk you through it with some helpful hints.
