Need help with 530

I put a new starter on my 530 because it wasn't turning over very well; about one half to two turns, then would stop, like it was getting stuck or binding. I just had the tractor apart and the main bearings are good and I put in new rings and rod bearings ond honed the cylinders. With the new starter, it acts the same way but I noticed that it cranks over fine without the choke pulled out but as soon as I pull the choke out then it binds down after ever 1/2 to 2 revolutions. The tractor won't start but smoke is coming out of the exhaust. Any ideas???
