Increasing HP on a 404 motor

Have a 1970 4520 with an original 404 motor with 7700 hours that dynos at 120 HP
Would like to get to about 150 HP to run a manure pump, this motor has the small roosa fuel pump, I am told no adjustment on this pump to increase HP and must go to the larger Roosa pump
to be able to turn up pump.
Is this true? What do the larger pumps cost?

All JD Roosa pumps,C, B, and JDB&JDC originally came with shims behind the leaf spring to limit the max fuel setting. There are also 4 leaf spring sizes, each one allows more shoe travel. Parts can be changed to get more fuel in all pumps, but must be torn down to access the leaf spring to see what is in place now. The shims kept the fuel from being turned up externally, most are removed at rebuild time. The C pump can get what you need with the right parts.

You were told wrong.
If you went to a JDB pump you would also need lines, linkage etc.
We used to do that when kits were available and no parts for the mickey mouse pumps.
Many of those parts are available now.

Yes, the C pump is the short one. I am in north central Indiana.

Better put an air to air intercooler on it as well as adding fuel. Do you have an EGT on there now to know how close to the ragged edge she is already?
A blown up engine won't pump worth crap.

Very few parts available anymore. Just resealed one on a 4020 that leaked badly. Owner says he will run it long as he can, and cross his fingers!

Something I will bring to your attention... if you plan on running the manure pump continuously, make sure you have enough radiator to handle the power.

It has been my experience that a turned up tractor will do well if the extra power is used intermittently, but continuous can be an issue when it comes to things like cooling.

Otherwise, I appreciate the idea. Things liek that are great uses of tractors like a 4520. I have a 5020 we use almost exclusively on PTO stuff like that, and it works great there.

The c pump can be turned up .We had a new 4520 that was a dog and JD installed large pump but all lines had to be changed also.A fellow in Spencer had 3 complete supposedly good small pumps he wanted to sell me but I declined as I had no use for them.Almost every 69/70 4020 I get have long pumps but once in a while I still see the small ones and they start and run fine.I had a new 69 4020 and put a turbo on it and we set the pump at 140H.P. and ran it 10K hours and never touched it.
