'65 4020 Powershift leaking at bell housing

I"ve had the tractor split 2 times to fix this leak. Second split went into the PTO and the PTO brake was replaced and PTO is now working correctly.

Second time mechanic said he missed one of the seals near the bell housing?

The PTO valve on the left side of the transmission was re-built with the second split.

Inside the dash/console looks dry.

I get about 1/2 pint of Hydro fluid in a catch pan after shutting it off. Probably 1 or 2 drips per second when hot and running.

Can someone tell me all the places this could be leaking from? Possibly a worn transmission shaft? Leaking past the clutch pack seals?

I"m assuming the pilot bushing was replaced when split.

Any insight would be appreciated. I think for now I"ll just keep adding oil until it gets to the point that I must have it split again. Any problems with this?

I basically use the tractor heavy 4-5 times a year for hay and for pulling a 15" bat wing mower. Something like 7 hours straight mowing.

Thanks.

Never worked on a powershift however on a Syncrorange there is the seal in the transmission above the pto brake and one between the pto and transmission input shafts and either one of these can cause the problem you describe

On a powershift there are 2 gaskets on the front cover/oil manifold housings, a packing on the trans pump housing and a seal on the input shaft. Those are the only seals into the flywheel housing. Check the cover/manifold housings for cracks.

Normally the input shaft seal is the source. Oil can leak from above and enter between the block and Bell housing. Oil can cause the dampener disk. To slip.

Yes it should be dealt with soon, unfortunately you need to pull the C1 and C2 and the PTO clutch apart to get to the seal,, not a bad job ...

If the input seals have been replaced on both splits, what is causing, or could cause them to fail? Tractor has been run less than 20 hours since the last split?

Tim, are you in agreement that it is the front transmission input seals? Any idea on what could be causing them to fail after less than 20 hours?

Wouldn't pulling the pto clutch pack require 2 splits or is that just to get back to the PTO brake? I thought C1, C2, C3 were all one unit?

Thanks.

C1, C2 and PTO clutches are one unit in the front split. Pto brake is at the second split. There is a bearing in the clutch manifold that supports the input shaft. Make sure the bearing is good and also not loose in the manifold or on the shaft. Make sure the shaft is not damaged at the seal area.
