In the past did I read that you could put a hand crank flywheel from a D on a G?

Yes, it will fit. It will make it a little "longer legged" in the pulls when you need lugging power.

I wonder why deere even made bigger tractors like the G and the D if you could just put a bigger flywheel your A and gain hp.

Flywheels don't make power, they store energy, it takes power to turn them.
