Posting a before / after picture of this past year's project. Bought this 1955 John Deere 40V from Neil Lang in Elmer, NJ. It had most of the cultivator rig still on it. Stripped it all down, rebuilt the engine and hydraulics, replaced the needed seals in the transmission and finals, put it back together piece by piece. Was able to secure a stainless muffler for it from Steve Crum before he had stopped his business of making them (wish he was still at it) -- that is the first thing people point to and ask about when they see the tractor. Had thoughts of using this one in the garden as a cultivator tractor but I have a 420S w/ cults that is already dirty so the 40V may stay clean for awhile. This next years project will probably be to catch up on a few implements -- have a JD #43 corn sheller, #6 hammermill #475 Disk Plow, and #422 / #422A one bottom two way plows to restore.
