'57 420 new intermittant grind

Lately, my brakes (at least one of them) apply themselves whenever I depress the clutch.

NOW, I"m hearing an ugly intermittant grinding when driving along. It sounds just like somebody is trying to engage a gear while not pressing the clutch all the way. I can feel it through the seat so I"m thinking it"s around the rear axle.

The grinding is brand new. The braking thing has been happening for a while so I have no reason to think they"re related.

By the way, it doesn"t "auto brake" in reverse.

my 430W had similar symptoms. I removed the brake "covers" and content and then disassembled and cleaned everything, put a dab of grease on all of the pivot points, "tightened" the springs that hold the "pressure plates" together and then reassembled and adjusted to spec and it has never worked better for me.

I may be way of base here but foggily think I remember that the pedal shafts underneath - one ran inside the other or something like that.

I know when I had my 420 it was a real tussle to free up that linkage.

If you have a wide, knocking the brakes apart for a look see should be a piece of cake.
