9 Bolt Cast Iron Hubs - Cracks

After hot tank and glass bead while installing the 5/8" wheel studs, it was noticed that one of the two hubs had radial and circumferential cracks.

Is this common or do I just have bad luck. I have another set on the tractor I am attempting to build into a puller and they are also cracked.

Are these cracked hub safe for pulling?

Attached a couple of pictures of the cracks and this project.

I'm leery of the cracks but I'm not a puller and we would not use cracked hubs on a race car. It's a long way down to the ground if a wheel falls off a tractor, even if it is only going about 3 mph.

Getting ready to throw out one of the racers so I can get started fabricating a back cover, hitch, wheelie bars and weight brackets. These old tractors may be more work than I bargained for.

I have a pair of those hubs on hand if you are interested get $150.00 plus shipping can ship one each in flat rate box for $16.85 each

Common. The second crack is not a big deal, ran one for years the same way. You can always do a little grinding, then welding on both areas, smooth it out and save you some cash.

The so called heavy hubs or cast and break easy the later thin hubs are malable steel and hold up well. Most hub cracks are caused by removing them from the axel.

Probably need to cut off your axle's and weld on a
set of light weight hubs. Ask on the pulling forum.
Pete P. Makes a good wedge on light weight hub. You
could drill the axles also. Vic
