Dropped one of my balls

Working on a 78 JD 2040, was making a noise coming from the clutch area. Split it in half today, there are 3 hyd. lines coming from the front to the back and I took 1 apart at a T by the brake pedal and the other 2 slipped out of a box underneath the transmission. I found the source of the noise, it was a bad pilot bearing. My problem is that when I was splitting it apart a 3/8" ball bearing fell out on the shop floor and I have no idea where it came from. It was clean and shiny looking with oil on it, anyone have any ideas?

Does this help? (Diagram is for tractor serial number after 349,000.)

Your ball is probably parts key #52
HYDRAULIC OIL LINES

That is it. After I had posted my first post I found the rest of this check valve scattered on the floor. Thanks a lot for the help.
Have one other question about this tractor, most of the time when I split one I will have the front stationary and roll the back backward. This one I did the opposite way because of not being able to roll the tractor by hand. It feels like the back brakes are locked on it, is there anything I should look for?

There are no brake disk return springs that weaken such as the later model utility tractors have.

Seems like it would wear the disc out a lot quicker.
