40 B brake shoe size

Working on brakes 40 B serial #81792.
Sent for new shoes at K & K Antique Tractors. They sent me lining 7.5 inches long [measured on curve] with 6 rivets. Mine measure 9.5 inches with 8 rivets. They claim someone changed the brakes to a later model or changed the serial number. JD parts picture shows 8 rivets. She assured she sent me the correct lining for my 40 B. I think the many changes in that era that she is not correct. She is now sending 10 inch lining for a 47 B will they fit?
What is the opinion of you out there that are more knowledgeable.
Thanks, Sam

In the parts book, it says that up to serial number 200999 they have 24 rivets in a set. After 200999, they use 32 rivets in a set. Something must have been changed at some time.
Serial Number 200999 would be a 1948 model.

Reviewed the John Deere Parts Catalog PC330 under the [b:654c4848f0]BRAKES[/b:654c4848f0] topic on page 80.

The original brake linings for our 39 and 40 Model B would have had 6 rivets.

The brake shoes were replaced on our 39B with brake linings requiring 8 rivets.

The photo below shows the brake linings on "Uncle Earl" our 39B,

If the brake shoes on your 40B require 8 rivets, then the brake linings for a 47B should fit.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for the reply. I feel much better. For sure one can't be sure what you have with these older tractors. The pictures are a great help, looks just like my hub without the new lining.
Again thanks, Sam
