730d with pony motor

hello all. i need to replace the 6 volt battery the starts the pony motor and also runs the headlamps and work lights. would a 8 volt battery work and be safe to use? i don't want to smoke the points and coils. all input is welcome!!! thank you/happy

A six volt battery should be plenty to start your pony motor. Works fine in my 720 D. If you are having issues, mabe your starter needs some work.

John Deere made it with a six volt, why do you feel they were wrong? AN 8 volt is a band aid to cover poor maintenance. If it's not starting like it should is it in proper tune? is the engine worn out? Are the electrical cables and connections full of corrosion and dirt?

Stick with the 6 volt. Search back for John T post on the theory of operation for mag ignitions and the oil pressure switch interlock for powering the circuit. It will save your points if you ever forget to shut off the switch.
Also if the fuel system isn't in tip top shape it will act like spark issues.
