Need bolsters for 953 running gear

I just bought a 953 that is missing both of the bolster assemblies. I am looking for a good pair of rigid ones, as I am going to build a hay wagon bed on it. I am going to repaint the gear, so condition doesn"t matter as long as they are straight and useable. Please call 765-427-3441 is you have any or can tell me of a source. Thanks, Jeff

I think Sharp's has a reproduction, Part number S2598D at Sharp's, Wagon stake bolster $19.75.

I saw that Sharps has the bolster uprights, but I also need the horizontal beams that they mount on that bolt to the frame. Thanks, Jeff

You could fab it out of channel iron or box channel, the difference in them is box channel has longer sides....it would actually be stronger than original...

Tim, that is the plan if I can't find anything before I restore it this winter. I just like to try to keep them original if I can.

Yes I know what you mean,, it's nice to keep it all original if you can,, but if you do it nicely it will still look real good, we have 10 953's with hay beds on the, 2 of them Dad bought new in 1954,,we get a lot of good out of them...

Tim, Wow, looks like a lot of bales! Mine usually hold 116. What are the dimensions of your racks? By the way, I checked your 60C over at Half Century pretty thoroughly and you did a great job. It was interesting to follow your progress as you built it.

Thanks,,it did turn out well, I have been having a lot of fun with it. our hay beds are 16 ft, I think they work out to hold 129 bales the way we stack them,,it"s a nasty sight to look at in the morning with 10 loads waiting for you to unload...we have worked the heck out of these old wagons over the years,,they are a great running gear for sure...

I hear what your saying on the 953 gears. I think I have 5 of them that have kicker racks on them. I have 14 wagons total and the old 953s seem to tow down the road better than the rest of them. Three of them are ones that my father had for who knows how long.
