John Deere1010 rs gas - will not run

Tractor was running fine, parked it for a month, started it up and it quit. I installed new plugs,points,cap,condenser, rotor button, it would start but cut off if you gave it any gas. I replaced the old carb with new zenith and same problem. So replaced coil, same problem. I bypassed the switch and put 12v to the postive side of coil in case bad resistor. same problem. So I replace intake gaskets because it acts like it is getting to much air. Same problem. Then this afternoon I tried chokeing it till gas ran out of carb,open choke back up and full throttle, it would start but poped and backfired then it started running, 10 mintues later it started all over not being able to take any throttle without curting off. Next thing is to replace distributor, god this thing is costing me too much. Any one have any ideas?

How's the flow of gas from the tank ? and does that have a transfer pump ? I can't remember how a 1010 is set up.

Time for some good old fashion trouble shooting instead of throwing more parts at it.

My 1010 gas crawler did the exact same thing when I bought it. It had been sitting a couple years. It was dirt in the tank. Take the tank right off the tractor and clean it good. I steam cleaned mine and haven"t had a problem since, that was 4 years ago.

Thanks for all the input. Ok, tank is clean new filter, new gas lines and good flow. It appears to have plenty of gas, since it will start, but as soon as I try to give it gas, ie the rpm come up it cut off. I have ckecked the distributor and the advances are free so I am stumped.
