John Deere A Radiator ?

My 1946 JD A needs a new radiator core. I'm looking for input on what core to buy for a replacement. Are the 4-row cores from AI Products good? I've heard some of the cheaper one's don't cool as well. Thanks in advance for your input, Cjet.

I put an A&I core in an "A" pulling tractor. I haven't had any problems, but obviously limited use and duty cycle. I'd buy another A&I when/if I need one. Mike

I recently put a new core in my 46 A that I bought from Sharps. It is a 4 row. Works fine and was a perfect fit. Haven't worked her real hard yet but it takes quite awhile before I have to even crack the shutters open.

John Deere 1950(A)4 row RAD - pulling a 3-14 plow , 7.5"s deep, temp runs about 195* ta 200* all day long at 80*ta 85* day temp. Works good.

I have an A&I radiator in my Unstyled A. The temp runs up around 185 and will get up to 200 if I work it good. When the block was bored .125 over for aluminum pistons, they bored to the minimum size for expansion clearance. It probably would run slightly cooler had they took out another .001 - I think the bore clearance on the tag in the piston set was .011 - .013

I put one from mother Deere in my 630, same rad as the newer A's but I don't know if it's the same as yours. It weighs more than any of the other aftermarket cores and it keeps the tractor cooler under hard load than it's run for a long time. The price tag about choked me but for my purposes it was worth the extra money. Jim

If the rad is U.S.A. made it will most likly be made by Detroit Radiator regardless if you buy it from Deere or a after market co .very good quality.$235.50 + shipping from where I get mine.

Has anyone had a problem with the fit of the AI products core? It says measurement "B" is 18" where as my core appears to be 18 3/8". Or is this not a problem for those that have used these cores?

I put an AI in my '52 A a few years ago and it fits just fine. I don't think that the 'B' measurement will be that critical as long as the bolt holes line up and there's enough gasket to reach the outer edge of the tank. I chased all the threads in my tanks and used a new bolt kit when I did mine. I also used NAPA aviation gasket maker and that worked great.
