I have a John deere m, we have restored it, and are now in the stages of adding fluids etc for its first attempt to start, my question is

How does hydraulics fluid get to pump on front of engine, when resevoir is at unit under seat, will this burn it up? Does the piston in main unit pump the fluid there quickly etc..... How long do I run engine, don't want to burn up pump?

The front pump is all you have. The piston is just a slave cylinder. It would be best if you unhooked the pump lines and filled it with oil before you start.

When I rebuilt the pump on my MT I only filled the unit at the rear. Started and let it run for a minute and cycled the lift a few times in that minute. I then shut it down and added more fluid. I did this three times and on the third time it did not need any more oil. There is not a piston in the pump up front, just the gears, so as long as some oil gets up there you should not burn it out. I know people who have found the TOM dry, added oil, and it worked so I wouldn't be too nervous about it.

I just cranked mine up. If I recall (foggily) the service manual said it is self priming.

Never hurts to manually prime though.
