3010 Generator Update

Here's an update on the 3010 Generator troubleshooting. I reported yesterday we felt the Generator was bad. Both my son and I were not totally comfortable with how the testing had gone so last evening we laid out a detailed plan using John T's trouble shooting guide he had given me earlier.
1. We were able to get the 3010 Generator to motor, both A to F terminals and A to gnd. We must have made a mistake in our connections yesterday.
2. So we followed John T's troubleshooting guide in great detail from beginning to end.
3. We are pretty confident now the issue is with the Regulator. Tomorrow I will order a new Regulator.
5. With the regulator out of the circuit we had the Generator producing 16 amps back to the battery as measured with a clamp-on ammeter my son has.
I am hoping/confident when I put a new regulator on it will be good.

Thanks for feedback, many on here arent very good hands at doing that. If it charges 16 amps if you dead grounded the Gennys FLD post (says the genny itself is okay) but NOT otherwise, the problem is most likely the VR isnt well grounded (did you insure that) or is bad (maybe field control relay contacts are burned???) or the wires bad from FLD on genny to FLD on VR

PS that Motor Test involves voltage on ARM (case frame grounded) first with FLD grounded (spins) then when FLD is ungrounded (spins faster), not sure what you did??

Best wishes, thanks again

Thanks for the response John T.

We checked grounds and wiring several times so I am pretty confident in that.

Yes, we got two speeds when doing the motoring test.

On the second go around we followed your procedure exactly. It worked well. When we got the 16 amps of charging we were off plan but that was after we went through your test procedure. We wanted to ensure the Generator could send a charge.

I will order a VR and let you know the results.

Paul.
