I am trying to remove the toggles for inspection for a jumpy clutch. I have the belt pulley removed and have not figured out how to remove the drive gear so that i may remove the cover. Book is not a lot of help.
thanks for any help

What did you test before you decided to rip it apart? Did you check the crankshaft end play? should be .005 - .010. Too much crank end play is one of the greatest reasons for a jumpy clutch. Toggles don't really have much to do with a jumpy clutch. To take the gear of the pulley you need a very good press and someone that knows what they're doing with the old JD's or you'll spend much much more than you want to fix the tractor.

Bill,

Give some additional info.

1. What has been done to the clutch
2. What year (early or late) production model
3. What tools are available

Took one of mine to the local JD dealer to have the drive gear removed. Charged $35 and put in new parts I had ordered.

thanks for the advice, We are doing a routine clutch replacement and did not measure end play.I watched Tyler buckeye's video which talked about inspecting the toggles. We were doing a reduction cover replacement anyway and decided to inspect the toggles. It did not take me to long to realize we needed more information. The shop is well supplied and yes we have the IT and the JD manual. I don't know off hand what year this tractor is, but i can tell you the cover would have to come off to continue our inspection. Thanks to all of you for the help

I've gotten them off with some heat and a good puller. A little heat when you put it back on helps also.
