The hydraulics chatter and the cylinders jump when raising the loader. Clutch in or out, synchro trans. Sometimes it runs smoother, seems to be a little less bad when sitting at certain angles. Overfill by a gallon doesn't change it any. Could it be the pump that supplies the main pump?

The loader has so many leaks we put oil in 2 gallons at a time when it gets below 'add'. Mostly cylinder seals, it's on the "to-do" list.

If we completely fill the radiator, it doesn't take long for it to push the coolant back out the overflow. Would it be worth it to try a fresh radiator cap, or just figure it needs a head gasket? It could use a full rebuild, the boss got it a few years ago, had it to the dealer for some repairs and they dyno'd it, only put out 60 horse. But it works good for what we need it to do (drill fenceposts, roll wire, move a few round bales, push a little dirt, and brushhog around the yard now and then).

How the heck do the two shifter drums work? I can see the same linkage up under the dash move, whichever gear I am going into, but can't figure out how it moves a different linkage on the side of the transmission each time.

What speed does the belly-mounted PTO run?

Thanks

We are having the same #1 issue on 67 4020D, have not gotten into fully troubleshooting it, will probably happen this winter. I did put pressure gauge on remotes, it has 2350 PSI until I raise the loader, then it drops off to almost nothing.

#2 issue, the radiator should not be completely full, the water should expand and push out the overflow, and not continue to do that on consecutive heating/cooling cycles.

Mid pto turns 1000 rpm no matter what speed the rear pto is turning @ pto speed. How long since hyd filter was changed & sump screen checked/cleaned? Has stand-by pressure been checked???????

I put a couple gallons in the radiator that day. I'd say it pushed a gallon back out.

I don't know how long it's been since much of anything was done with this tractor. It runs a couple hours a day when we are using it a lot. The engine oil hasn't been changed in 3 years, but it probably doesn't have 100 hours on it in that time. Boss traded an old bale processor for it.

The level should maintain about an inch or two above the cores, if it does, then do not worry. I would expect the front pump is worn out and maybe the trans pump too.

Make sure and check filter and screen as someone recommended.

Tim S and TX Jim are the experts on these.

I forgot to mention, the valve for the loader bucket has some by-pass in neutral, but holding the lever to where it quits doesn't seem to smooth out the loader any.

We run a wire winder on the remotes, and it runs smooth, but the hoses on the post-hole digger can jump around a bit too.
