I would have bought a 6203 double seal bearing for $4 off eBay last summer, have it on hand just for this occasion and simply change it out when needed. If you ordered the bearing now you would be down a week or so if it's not coming from China. If you don't need it right away, I wouldn't pay even $31 for a fix.
You better verify the bearing size you really need though before you go buying anything. Grudgingly the parts store will sell you a bearing for $17 but don't expect them to be happy for you. Or grateful.
Nothing will be cheaper than the alternator you already have, you just need to fix it or have it fixed for you. Delco one wire is a headache you couldn't give to me. I wouldn't be going back to your parts store either, but that's just me. Did they even offer you a new bearing? They got a handful in the back and that's a fact. Be sure you pin your brushes out of the way properly when you put your alternator back together or you will need to buy new brushes too - the parts store WON'T have those on purpose. In order to force you to buy a NEW alternator, price of brushes elsewhere is 4 bucks or so. RockAuto has them as in dot com. Before the internet I would get them from electrical supply houses, but good ones are hard to find anymore, always moving too.
