4020 5th gear

brother has a 4020, I've been using it as of lately. anyway , when you first start up and put it in 5th , let clutch out it will not move, must pull farther back into reverse,release clutch to move back, then back up to 5th then it will move foward , usaually this happens only the first time, then all is ok , till you shut down and start again, what could this be , i'm not tooo use to these and it is NOT the powershift , sycro - range , reg 8 sd.
any help will be appreciated

Probably needs slack removed with shims &/or worn bushings in the 2 drums(parts keys #10 & 16)

Probably linkage needs adjusting from worn holes and rods.
