JD 105 Gas Combine Engine Question

Just curious if the gas engine in a late JD 105 combine will fit in any of the tractors? Thanks - Bob

All 4020's as far as I know. Early ones were 348 cubes. Late ones were 362. Both were the same engine except for the bore and a few little things. Jim

Also be aware that really only the block and cylinder heads are the same. Manifolds, oil pans and some accessories will be different on the tractor vs. the harvester. If you already have the gas tractor you can simply just swap the parts around from one engine to the other.

We kept one of those old 105 engines around for years thinking someone would need it. After a bunch of years passed with no takers we finally sent it to the scrap yeard.

be ware of doing that.... I suggest NOT... the Massey Guys found out that the blocks from the combine perkins 354"s were not internally braced for tractors.. and then a few years later they had a 2 part machine... the rails on a JD are tool carriers NOT supports like some would think--yes they do help support but thats not the main function

In those years the blocks were the same. Not until 9000 series combines were the blocks different.

The 105 engines were the closest to the early 4020 engines, there were several different styles of the 404/466 blocks.
