i have a 51 A that is terribly loud in 6 gear. Will replacing 6 hear fix this problem or is there something else causing the loud wine? How hard is it to replace 6 gear?

Good chance it is normal wear in the first reduction gear, usually not(as) noticeable in the lower gears. Using 140 weight transmission lube sometimes helps.

Is it Gear noise or just the Clutch-Drum whining (Ringing)..?

On some, the clutch does not make a sound and others ring at different RPM...

Ron..

Is the noise there in 4th also? It's the same gear but in low range. The gear is under the tin cover just behind the flywheel so it would be easy to take off and look at the gears.

That fourth and sixth gear really takes a beating because those two gears are used a lot and a person tends to want to grind it into sixth, well, some do. Not me, right? Behind the tin cover behind the flywheel you'll find them. One is the slider and the other is the stationery one. You can get the stationary one off with a puller and maybe a little heat. Usually those two gears don't whine. They get chipped instead. They are hard to find at a salvage because they are the most commonly replaced gears on an A-60-620-630. The same gear fits all four models but the numbered series models have drilled and tapped holes in the stationary gear because you can't get a puller behind it in the numbered series. Jim

Dirck it has a 3 speed trans and a high low like all the 2 cyls it just has one lever and makes the high & low shift as you go from one side to the other on the quadrent
