working on a 830 electric start, have postive cable to starter, and negitive to one post on senilnod, when I turn switch on dash and push the starter button only the senilnod kicks in but the starter does not turn over. The starter will turn over only when I use a screw driver to cross the to postes on the senilnod. what am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help

Sounds like contacts inside solenoid corroded. Its a disk that makes contact with the posts when solenoid engages. You can take the solenoid apart and clean the contacts.

Please, please, please--------do not try shortening out the electrical system on this tractor. The electrical system on an electric 830 is unique. Yes it is a 24 volt system, but very different. Please get an operators manual for this particular tractor and use accordingly in trouble shooting. You can ruin the electrical system real quick, (if you haven"t already), which can get expensive real quick as well. Been there, done that.

Only thing I know off that will get burn't up shorting across big post on solenoid to the "S" post is the screwdriver. I've "carefully shorted across 24 V solenoids" several times with no wiring harnesses burn't up.

I agree either flip washer around in solenoid or replace solenoid.
