John Deere 2150 Over Heating..??

Have John Deere 2150 with 4,994 hrs started over heating last week cutting hay. Never had a problem in the past few years since I have owned it for hay work. The coolant/water was changed this winter. Raditor was blown out, and screens before going to field. Coolant level was full. Belt also tight to 1/4 " deflection or less. It started going to the red and I stopped to check out all, no problems. Also noticed while going to field that it seemed to run a little higher temp than normally. Usually ran about a 1/4 of green to a 1/3 all the time. When i stopped I opened cap to release pressure and coolant/water came out under extreme pressure. Filled with water and coolant and slowed down a little and she ran 2/3 the way or more to the red. Would you think the thermostat could be a problem or raditor needs rotted out? Haven't checked flow yet.
Thanks Very Much
Keith

Jim thats what I was thinking also. Just wanted to get some opinions before I tackle it. Seems to be a big job to change it due to all the stuff in the way.
Thanks
Keith

Please refresh my memory as to what's in the way? remove the hood and you're looking at it.

Jim I was just looking at all of it were the screens come off. Maybe lot eaiser than I thought. Need to look closer I guess. I thank lots for all the information. Next i need to read the manual on how to adjust speed control. It want stay in the position u put it. It back off to about 2100 RPMs and stays their when i want it full speed.
Again thanks for all the info!

Sounds as if friction washers(parts key #6) need replaced. Back in the 70's-80's I sold split washers that could be added around shaft to put more tension on the spring but I don't know if they are still available or not.

Possibly the head gasket is blown pressurizing the cooling chamber
If you have a cooling system pressure tester - install tester on rad cap opening and start tractor
Rad caps are usually 13-15 psi
While tractor is running, see if pressure goes past 15 psi and keeps climbing - if so it is the head gasket
I had a 6910 European model tractor that did this -pressure went all the way to the end of the gauge -started out I was to change the thermostat, I moved the tractor and let it run for 5 minutes -removed the thermostat bypass hose and the coolant exploded on me - there should not be that much pressure in cooling system in 5 minutes of running -head gasket was problem

One thing on those too, some of them had a plastic impeller in the water pump that would break apart. If the thermostat doesnt fix it, that would be the next place to check.
