Oil slinger cover bolt torque specs

I need suggestions on torque values for the oil slinger cover bolts for a 58 John Deere 630. I've found the values for the outer crankshaft bearing housing, etc, but can't find any in my manuals for the 630. I figure 75-100 ft lbs might be in the range to keep them tight. Bearing housing is 150 ft lbs and flywheel bolts are 275 ft lbs. When I took the flywheel off the two bolts did not have any lock or flat washers. I've bought new grade 8 bolts and nuts but wonder if I should use flat washers also. I'll have to check my parts book again to see if any are listed.

Washers are not used on the two flywheel clamp bolts. When you talk about the slinger cover bolts - you mean key #8? Those are 5/16 course thread. About 20 pound feet is plenty.

Paul...thanks for the reply. I checked the Portland Bolt Co. recommended torque for various bolts and that agrees with your assessment. My figures were way too high. I'm good to go now and get the 630 running again. Have a couple of shows and a plow day to attend in the next couple of months. Appreciate the help.

John Deere published VERY few torque specs. on these old tractors.

If you want to torque something get a chart of common bolt torques and go by bolt size thread pitch and strength. I always keep a chart handy in my shop and on these old Deeres used the grade 5 bolt value and seemed to work out fine.
